Not only do we love surprises, we love to be a part of them too! When we were asked if we would be willing to work undercover in making over a bedroom for a special young man, we were all in!
We met in secret with his parents to get all the nitty-gritty about him, what he likes, his personality and what types of things we could incorporate to make his bedroom special. They expressed how very much he LOVES legos, reading comic books and super heros. We learned that their family had made the decision recently to spend their resources, this year, on creating memories rather than gifts. And this bedroom makeover would be his main birthday gift. We loved their heartbeat and wanted to this gift to make an impression.
Here are a few BEFORE pictures of the birthday boy's room. *Bad lighting but you get the idea. :)
We started brainstorming and came up with a few cool ideas for the birthday boy. We all know Legos and storage are a big problem for many families. They tend to get everywhere and are hard to contain. We came up with a creative solution! A custom roll under the bed storage and play space.
He can now play with his legos and without having to tear his creations apart can roll them away under the bed until he's ready to play with them again. His room included a dresser that had been in their family for years and they wanted to try to keep in his new space. So we refurbished it, had it painted, changed out the knobs and it was like brand new! He loves to read and so we wanted to come up with a creative & fun way to store his books.
We found a cool metal, three dimensional United States map and decided it was the perfect size for his books and makes use of wall space.
We incorporated vintage super hero posters above his reclaimed wood bed with industrial scissor lights on either side to give it a unique look.
Lastly, his dad came up with a great idea to have a custom fort added to the space. This fort would allow him to play with his friends and be a great book nook. Needless to say, it was a HUGE hit and we topped it off with a personalized Fort sign.
We love how his bedroom turned out and so did he which made us so happy!
